Medical waste removed from warehouseA new waste removal company was appointed by the Northern Cape Health Department on Wednesday to remove dumped medical waste found stored in a warehouse in Kimberley.

Northern Cape environmental affairs spokesperson Thabo Ditseho said the waste was being removed on Wednesday.

"They started this morning."

The province's Green Scorpions discovered the medical waste, consisting of amputated limbs, aborted foetuses, syringes and blood-stained swabs, at a Kimberley warehouse.

Ditseho said the environmental department had issued a notice of non-compliance against waste removal company, Psychem, while it was also found to be operating without a licence.

Ditseho said the police were investigating the matter.

The Northern Cape Health Department did not want to comment on Wednesday.
