Joburg to host ‘green’ summit Joburg is to host a major environmental summit investigating the creation of liveable communities well into the 21st century.

Looking at trends in recreation The annual convention, held under the auspices of the Institute of Environment and Recreation Management (IERM) and hosted by Joburg's City Parks, will probe environmental issues faced by the City and the rest of the country.

Some 200 municipalities will be represented at the summit, to take place from 5 to 7 October in Sandton. Representatives from national, provincial and local government will be joined by officials from environmental bodies, academic institutes and other non-governmental organisations.

City Parks' managing director, Luther Williamson, sees the convention as "a wonderful platform" for all role players to look closely at environmental and recreation trends.

Emphasising just how important the convention is to Johannesburg, it is noteworthy that City Parks' Patrick Meyer is the IERM's president elect. Meyer is the operations executive for environment and infrastructure at City Parks.
