State of electricity usage in red alert

Dear electricity consumer, Eskom needs your help to reduce electricity usage from 17:00 to 21:00 every evening. The national electricity system is currently operating under constrained conditions and is in RED alert. This is due to a high number of technical problems being experienced on our ageing generation plant. In order to manage the situation, we need the country’s support and assistance in reducing the demand of electricity to manageable levels over the next few weeks.

Over 50 rhinos killed in SA in January 2013

About 57 rhinos have been killed this year by poachers in South Africa, with 42 of these being in the Kruger National Park (KNP). According to the latest data released by the Department of Environmental Affairs, six rhinos have been poached in KwaZulu-Natal, six in North West, two in Limpopo and one in Mpumalanga.
