Honeybee Survival threatened by Cell phones and mobile phone Towers

Honeybee Survival threatened by Cell phones and mobile phone TowersA study published in India has concluded that the electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile phone towers and cell phones could pose a threat to honey bees.

In the southern state of Kerala an experiment was conducted showing that a sudden fall in the bee population occurred when towers were installed across the state by cell phone companies to increase their network.

Dr Sainuddin Puttazhy, who conducted the study, said that the electromagnetic waves emitted by the towers crippled the “navigational skills” of the worker bee colonies that go out to collect nectar from flowers to sustain bee colonies.

He discovered that when a cell phone was kept near a beehive the worker bees were unable to return to the hives, leaving only the queen and eggs and resulting in the collapse of the colony within ten days.

With over 100 000 people in Kerala involved in apiculture the dwindling worker bee population poses a threat to their livelihoods.  Bees also play a role in pollinating flowers to sustain vegetation

Honey bees could be wiped out in 10 years said Puttazhy if the number of towers and cell phones increase.

I wish authors of articles such as this would reference their sources properly. "Recent studies in India" doesn't mean a thing. I Googled "Dr Sainuddin Puttazhy" and came up with nothing at all, so I wonder....
There was an excellent piece on TV about bees last week which cliamed the cellphones had been ruled out of the Community Collapse Disorder (CCD) debate and that a combination of viruses was being investigated as the cause of the problem.
No verifiable references there either mind you!
