| 12 Arrests Made in Connection with Rhino Poaching in Chitwan National Park | |
|
The good news: Multiple arrests have been made in connection to the recent rhino poaching incidents inside Nepal’s Chitwan National Park. The bad news: It turns out that three - not two - rhino were killed by poachers over the last two weeks. Two of the rhino were females. Apparently, the suspects live in the area: Local sources have reported that authorities also confiscated weapons, Rs 156,000 in cash, and two motorcycles from the suspected poachers’ residences. According to Shiva Raj Bhatta of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, they have confessed to being involved with rhino poaching. He believes that these arrests may lead to authorities to a larger group of poachers. It is disheartening to note that the twelve suspects span a wide range of ages: The youngest is only 18 and the oldest is 90 years of age. Sadly, it appears that some of the younger generation is involved in this most heinous of crimes - and the older generation is leading the way.
