| TO OFFSET OR NOT TO OFFSET | |

For example, whilst shopping one tends to just search for the products one wants and maybe when we see the product we might check to see if it is the cheapest or if it our favourite brand. But now with trying to reduce our carbon footprints it may require us to search even harder, because now whilst shopping we not only have to look for the above mentioned criteria, but we also have to look at packaging and ask: Is it environmentally friendly? Is it recyclable? We then have to look at the brand and ask: Is this brand striving to make its products as safe to the environment as possible? Is it involved in active carbon reduction itself? (After all we would want to support a brand that is itself trying to reduce along with us) And then after asking yourself all these questions you may be disappointed to find that the most environmentally friendly brands tend to have a slightly higher price than others. This is understandable due to the fact that they have taken the time and spent the money on producing something that has far less an impact on the environment than its competitors. So as you can see for those of us who already don't enjoy the task of grocery shopping making our shopping baskets footprint as light as possible just takes "work". And as is the case with a lot of people we tend to start reducing our footprint, but not to far down the line we revert back to our old ways. And that is why offsetting your carbon footprint is so important... Offsetting ones carbon footprint is an excellent tool we must take advantage of, it gives you instant piece of mind knowing that you have taken responsibility for your carbon emissions. What i have done and would suggest that all of us do is calculate your current carbon footprint, before starting a reduction regime, and offset that footprint now! The reason for doing this is so that you are firstly taking immediate action and secondly you are safe guarding yourself in the event that you should later decide that certain elements of a carbon reducing regime just don't suite your lifestyle. And not forgetting the fact that if offsetting your carbon emissions through tree planting, those trees will take anything from five to seven years before they reach their full offsetting potential, so action needs to be taken as soon as possible. For a lot of us the phrase "reduce your carbon footprint" doesn't seem to have the thrill or excitement it used to have. It sounds so easy to do, but once you start getting into it, it turns out it is actually a lot of work to reduce your carbon footprint. Not really work in the form of physically doing anything, but more mentally challenging because it often means a change in ones lifestyle, and we humans being creatures of habit often find it difficult to change a deep rooted habit.
